Light Music Club and High School Light Music Contest Tour held!
On 2 August, 2025 by SasakiOn Thursday, July 31st, first-year members of the Light Music Club observed the Kanto Finals of the 7th High School Light Music Contest (held at Aoba Public Hall in Yokohama), sponsored by the NPO National School Light Music Club Association. Unfortunately, three students were unable to attend due to illness, but 26 new members participated.
Our school’s Light Music Club bands have advanced to the finals of this competition twice, the first and fourth times. 22 bands (three from Saitama Prefecture) from the Kanto region, including one metropolitan area and seven prefectures, made it to the finals after passing a video screening and live final selection process. This time, three bands from our school advanced to the finals, but unfortunately did not make it to the finals.
At light music club competitions (contests), spectators are allowed to cheer and watch the finals, but this is not possible for the preliminary rounds due to venue capacity constraints. Therefore, these opportunities are extremely valuable learning opportunities. Our first-year Light Music Club members always observe these finals and use them as inspiration for their future band activities. It also makes them think, “I want to take part in a competition like this.”
The participating students all watched and listened to the performances of all the musicians, taking notes on each performer’s good points, things they could learn from, and things they would do differently in their own music. They also enjoyed watching the performances and feeling the power of live music, and it seemed to help them develop ideas for future band activities.
The Light Music Club will continue to practice daily for various competitions, performances at domestic and international events, and joint live shows, in pursuit of music that everyone can enjoy.
