Light Music Club participates in the 15th High School Light Music Contest

On 22 July, 2025 by Sasaki

On Sunday, the 20th, the third-year solo band [Hoei] and the mixed band of second- and third-year students [Midnight] from the light music club participated in the preliminary round of the 15th High School Light Music Contest (West District, Kawagoe Minami Venue) sponsored by the Saitama Prefecture High School Light Music Federation.

This competition is mainly for third-year students, and it will be their last competition. Five bands out of the 17 participating bands passed the preliminary round and will be given the right to participate in the final competition to be held on August 6th. (The West District is a fierce battleground with schools that win the final and advance to the national competition every year, so one more band is selected to participate in the final than other districts by seed rights.)

Hoei performed their original song “Soliloquy” and Midnight performed their original song “Where is that lonely girl?” Both groups participated with their original songs, and they showed the results of their usual practice and fought well, performing in front of the professional music judges while feeling nervous but having fun. Some members suffered mild heatstroke on the way to the venue and were not in perfect health at the time of assembly, but fortunately they received early treatment and were able to perform as usual when it was time to go on stage.

Unfortunately, both groups missed out on advancing to the finals by a very narrow margin, but this was an excellent result, tying our school’s highest ranking ever for the light music club, and certainly showing that the club’s overall skills have improved.

Compared to the stronger schools, they were usually in an environment with no time or space to practice, and with many other restrictions, but they worked hard at practicing to make their songs as good as possible, discussing the songs with the band after practice and making changes to the arrangements, which was a great source of pride for the coaches and made us feel confident. It was also very impressive to see them having fun on stage while still performing at a high level.

The Light Music Club will continue to practice daily for various competitions, performances at various domestic and international events, joint live performances, and other activities, and will continue to pursue music that everyone can enjoy listening to.
